  • Review: Weisses Rössl, Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria

A few streets back from the glacial shimmer of the River Inn and tucked beneath the watchful peaks of the Nordkette mountains lies the Weisses Rössl restaurant, Innsbruck’s unapologetic ode to Tyrolean gastronomy.

This culinary nook – not to be confused with the hotel of the same name at the same location – offers an unpretentious kind of charm that’s warm, welcoming and refreshingly unassuming, and has belonged to the same family for four generations.

    The food

The restaurant offers traditional Tyrolean dishes, honouring recipes that have been passed down through the generations.

Adventurous diners will enjoy trying the escargots from Gugumuck – a Viennese snail farm – served with a garlic herb butter and toast. Andreas Gugumuck, a former employee of IBM, has been committed to reviving this once-popular Austrian delicacy for nearly two decades.

Alternatively, try the Beef Tartar, a classic

  • Review: ADLERS Hotel, Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria

ADLERS Hotel in Innsbruck is a place where contradictions collide in the most mesmerising of ways. A beacon of modern design in the heart of Innsbruck, it’s a place where minimalist interiors are framed by jagged, snow-dusted peaks, with a rooftop bar where you can enjoy a glass of wine whilst admiring landscapes that look like they belong in a fairy tale. Innsbruck itself is a city of contrasts where historic cobbled streets meet the sharp, contemporary edge of a bustling ski culture – and ADLERS mirrors this perfectly. But does it deliver on its promise of being a gateway to both luxury and adventure? Let’s take a closer look.

    The welcome

First impressions are everything, and ADLERS knows it. From the moment you step into the sleek, ground floor reception, the staff greet you with an efficiency that doesn’t sacrifice warmth. We had arrived on a very

  • Review: TRIBE Manchester Airport, Manchester, UK

Let’s be honest – airport hotels don’t usually conjure up much excitement. They’re invariably functional, forgettable places where lonely businessmen sup on overpriced whiskies ahead of an early morning flight. But every now and then, an airport hotel comes along that dares to mix things up a little. And at Manchester Airport, there’s a new addition that’s re-writing the script. Read on to learn how TRIBE Manchester Airport – Manchester’s biggest hotel with 412 rooms – comes with just enough edge to make you rethink everything you thought you knew about pre-flight accommodation.

    The welcome

This is only TRIBE’s second hotel in the UK (the first being in London’s Canary Wharf) and we arrived in rather wintry conditions when the hotel was busy dealing with a recent flight cancellation. Now part of Accor, the staff on reception were very welcoming, inviting us to take

  • Review: Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo, Monaco

I would have liked to provide a more in-depth review of my recent stay at Hôtel Hermitage Monte-Carlo but alas my visit was just a very brief one, prior to attending the ILTM Cannes luxury travel conference. But here goes… established in the early 1900s, this Belle Époque style hotel was designed by architect Nicolas Marquet, with contributions from Gustave Eiffel (creator of the Eiffel Tower). It enjoys a prestigious history and has hosted a wealth of discerning guests over the years, from celebrities to royalty.

The hotel is part of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), a prestigious luxury hospitality and entertainment group based in Monaco that owns and operates a number of hotels and other entertainment facilities, including Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, Casino de Monte-Carlo and Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo.

    The welcome

I was greeted at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport and driven to the hotel before

  • Review: Linden Barn, Orton, Cumbria, UK

Nestled in the Cumbrian village of Orton is Linden Barn – a beautiful 3-bedroom property lovingly converted by owners Fiona and Brian who live next door. Available through Rural Retreats, it was renovated in 2020 and is idyllically situated with easy access to both the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District National Parks.

    The welcome

Linden Barn is located off a short country lane just a stone’s throw from the heart of the village of Orton. Access to the property was via a lockbox, the details for which had been communicated to us in advance of our arrival, meaning we could seamlessly check ourselves in.

We did however call briefly next door just as a courtesy to introduce ourselves to the owners, and met Fiona who was friendly and chatty. We were fascinated to hear that Pablo, the retired resident trail riding horse who can often
