  • Bangkok Airways to resume domestic operations, reopens Samui Airport from 15 May 2020

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide the latest update from Bangkok Airways that it will resume domestic flight operations from 15 May, 2020, onwards with the Bangkok – Samui (round trip) twice daily service.

    Samui Airport will also resume daily operations on 15 May, 2020, from 08.00 – 19.00 hrs.

    The airline announced temporary suspension of all domestic flights from 7-30 April, 2020, as well as temporary closure of its three airports – Samui, Sukhothai and Trat, as part of the national and global efforts to curb the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

    According to Bangkok Airways, all resumed flight operations will strictly comply with the safety measures and social distancing guidelines set by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).

  • Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand attended the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

    On 14 April 2020, His Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.), Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, attended the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit (APT) on Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) via videoconference. The Summit was chaired by His Excellency Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam as the ASEAN Chair. Also attending were the Leaders from ASEAN Member States and Plus Three countries, namely the People’s Republic of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, as well as the ASEAN Secretary-General and the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).

    The Leaders updated information on COVID-19 situation and measures undertaken by each country and reaffirmed their commitments to collective cooperation in fighting against the COVID-19 outbreak in a timely and effective manner and mitigating economic impacts as well as preparing for future crises.

  • The Special ASEAN Summit and Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit on COVID-19 on 14 April 2020

    H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.), Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, will attend the Special ASEAN Summit and the Special ASEAN Plus Three Summit on COVID-19 via video conference on Tuesday, 14 April 2020. The Summits will be chaired by the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam as the current ASEAN Chair.

    This will be the first time in ASEAN history that innovative technology will provide platforms for the Leaders of the 10 ASEAN Member States and ASEAN’s Plus Three Partners, namely China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, to discuss via video conference and reaffirm their shared commitment to cooperate in a concrete manner and coordinate an effective and timely response to the spread of COVID-19. This includes mitigating the far-reaching socio-economic impact caused by the pandemic, and preparing for a post-COVID recovery to restore confidence and the return to normalcy in the region.

  • Phuket puts all 17 areas on lockdown for 14 days

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide the latest update that Phuket has imposed a lockdown for all 17 sub-districts for 14 days, from 00.01 Hrs. of 13 April, 2020, to 23.59 Hrs. of 26 April, 2020, or until the situation improves.

    The move makes Phuket the first province in Thailand to impose a total lockdown of all areas, in its sustained effort to stop the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

    With the exceptions of medical and emergency personnel and logistics workers, all 17 sub-districts are sealed off to ensure minimum mobilisation of people and vehicles.

    Phuket is also the first province in Thailand to conduct active case finding to screen for new cases and contain the spread of the virus.
