  • Chon Buri orders Pattaya lockdown to combat COVID-19

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide further updates that Chon Buri has ordered a lockdown of Pattaya in its intensified effort to combat the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

    Effective from today, 9 April, 2020, until further notice, the order includes:

    A ban on entry and exit, except for residents of Pattaya, people who work in Pattaya, and people with necessities deemed appropriate by Pattaya City and Bang Lamung District. Strict screening of people. Any person deemed at risk will be referred to the local medical and public health officers. Setting up of checkpoints at points of entry and exit as deemed appropriate by Pattaya City and Bang Lamung District that can effectively prevent and control the spread of COVID-19. All residents of any nationality are required to wear a surgical mask when leaving their residence.

  • Thailand grants automatic visa extensions for foreigners affected by COVID-19 crisis

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to inform foreigners in Thailand who have been affected by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) that they will be granted automatic visa extensions.

    The measure, which was announced this evening, 8 April, 2020, in the Royal Thai Government Gazette with immediate effect, covers three groups of foreigners as per the following:

    Foreigners with resident visas who normally reside in Thailand but are now overseas and required to return to Thailand within a year of their departure. Since they might not be able to re-enter Thailand in time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they will be granted an extension of their compulsory return deadline. However, they are required to return to Thailand as soon as the situation improves within the period specified by the Immigration Bureau.

  • Chiang Mai bans alcohol sales, intensifying its fight against COVID-19

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide the latest update regarding Chiang Mai’s ban on alcohol sales from 10-20 April, 2020, as part of its intensified effort to stop the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

    All retail and wholesale business establishments in Chiang Mai are ordered to close or conceal their alcoholic beverage section according to the order issued on 7 April, 2020, by the provincial communicable disease control committee.

    This latest order by Chiang Mai is in addition to its previous orders for the closure of a list of venues, business establishments and activities deemed at risk for the transmission of infectious diseases.

  • Surat Thani, which includes Ko Samui and Ko Phangan, orders hotel closure

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide an update from Surat Thani province regarding its measures to combat the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

    Surat Thani province administers 19 districts including the tourist islands of Ko Samui, Ko Phangan and Ko Tao, as well as Mu Ko Ang Thong Marine National Park.

    Effective from 8-30 April, 2020, Surat Thani has ordered closure of all types of hotels and similar establishments, with the exception of hotels designated as field hospitals and local quarantine venues.

    Hotels currently occupied, which are to be closed immediately after the last guests have checked out, must report the details of all guests to the local authorities. Any guest deemed at risk will be isolated and transferred to a designated hospital for quarantine or treatment.

  • Phuket seals off three more areas – Kathu, Chalong and Srisoonthorn

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide further updates that Phuket has ordered a lockdown of three more areas – Kathu, Chalong and Srisoonthorn Sub-districts, in addition to Patong, Karon and Rawai, as part of the unprecedented measures to stop the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

    The areas of Kathu Sub-district in Kathu District, Chalong Sub-district in Mueang District, and Srisoonthorn Sub-district in Thalang District, which are also deemed high risks for the COVID-19 infection, have been ordered a lockdown from today, 7 April, 2020, until further notice.

    Similar to the lockdown orders for Patong, Karon and Rawai Sub-districts, the lockdown orders for Kathu, Chalong and Srisoonthorn Sub-districts include:

    A ban on entry and exit with the exception of vehicles transporting consumer goods, cooking gas, fuel, medical supplies and equipment; rescue vehicles; ambulances, medical emergency vehicles; state vehicles; logistics vehicles for post and newspapers – all of whom must strictly comply

  • Phuket orders all residents to wear masks when going outside

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide the latest update from Phuket province regarding its ongoing unprecedented measures to prevent and mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

    In the latest move to intensify its COVID-19 control efforts, Phuket province took a step further and ordered all residents to wear either surgical or cloth masks when leaving their residence. The order also prohibits any activities deemed unhygienic that may pose a risk for the transmission of infectious diseases.

    The order came into effect from today, 7 April, 2020, until further notice.

    This followed several measures current in place as previously reported by TAT, include:

  • Thailand extends a ban on inbound passenger flights until 18 April, 2020

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide further update that Thailand’s ban on all incoming passenger flights has been extended for the period from 00.01 Hrs. of 7 April, 2020, until 23.59 Hrs. of 18 April, 2020, from previously covering a three-day period from 00.01 Hrs. of 04 April, 2020, until 23.59 Hrs. of 06 April, 2020.

    According to the announcement issued today, 6 April, 2020, by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), any existing permission given to any passenger airlines that fall during the newly-extended ban period is null and void.

    The CAAT continues to allow exceptions for landings of the following aircraft: state or military aircraft; emergency landing; technical landing without passenger disembarkation; humanitarian aid, medical and relief flights; repatriation flights; and cargo aircraft.

    The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) would like to provide the latest update on Phang Nga province’s order to close areas deemed at risk of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection, with immediate effect until further notice.
