  • Our vegan first class experience with British Airways

Whilst long haul trips in business class have been a regular part of our global travels in recent years, for which we are of course eternally grateful, our recent Singapore to London return flights in first class were an extra special treat. Often referred to as the ‘super jumbo’, our flights in both directions with British Airways were on board one of their A380’s along with 469 fellow passengers. The first class cabin has only 12 seats and has a 1-2-1 format, ensuring a certain sense of space and exclusivity. Many have written previously, and many will continue to write about the airline, the aircraft and the seat, but this article is all about the food, the vegan food in particular which is globally identified in the industry as a VGML meal. For anyone who has ordered ‘special meals’ on their flights, the possibility of it not being loaded, being

  • Review: The Swan, Tarporley, Cheshire, UK

Few places manage to balance history and hospitality quite like The Swan at Tarporley. With more than 400 years of experience, this former coaching inn knows a thing or two about welcoming weary travellers. Nestled in one of Cheshire’s most picturesque villages, and today part of the Bear Inns group of quality pubs with rooms, The Swan is more than just a place to rest your head — it’s steeped in character, comfort and community spirit.

    The welcome

Arriving early at a hotel can often be met with a sigh and a politely rehearsed, “Your room isn’t quite ready.” Not so at The Swan. The staff greeted us with genuine warmth, happily accommodating our early arrival and ensuring we were settled in with minimal fuss by walking us to our room. That first impression — gracious, flexible and keen to please — set the tone for our entire

  • Oman: Magical mountains and luxurious escapes

It was still dark as our plane began its descent into Muscat. Below us, the inky black waters of the Gulf of Oman reflected the light of the silvery moon and the shadowy outlines of the saw-toothed Jabal Akhdar Mountains encircled the still-sleeping city.

The airport was quiet, our flight the only one landing at this time of day. Quickly through immigration, we emerged into the arrivals area of the terminal, where a uniformed driver awaited. Through the terminal and into the waiting car, we headed straight out of town, towards the mountains.

The road wound through the outskirts of Muscat, gradually giving way to the rugged vastness of the Omani desert. As we get closer to the mountains, the landscape becomes even more dramatic, with jagged peaks rising against the slowly brightening sky. The air grows cooler as we climb. We pass small villages and traditional stone houses, clinging
