  • Weekend Train Trip to Chiang Mai, Lamphun and Lampang

Good morning from Chiang Mai Railway Station. The State Railway of Thailand has joined hands with Lampang Rajabhat University to organize train tours under the label ‘Lanna Modernization Railroad Travel’. The aim is to promote rail tourism and the route between the old towns of Lampang, Lamphun, and Chiang Mai. This is now their fourth package tour. The demgraphics of my fellow passengers are retirees with disposable income. The tour price was 7,590 Baht and the ones that I asked said it was a reasonable price. In fact there were some people who had been on all four trips so far.

This is a live report of my three-night, two-day tour with them in Northern Thailand.

[2] We came to Chiang Mai on Special Express No.9 which is a sleeper train. I got a full seven hours

  • Alternative Places to Visit in Germany

If you’re looking for a vacation spot with a rich history and a variety of things to do, Germany is the place for you. While Germany’s largest cities, like Berlin and Munich, have plenty to offer in terms of art, culture, and nightlife, there are also many smaller places that are worth exploring.

If you’re traveling from the US, all you need is an ETIAS Germany for Americans and this handy guide to the hidden gems of Germany.

    Cochem

Cochem is a beautiful town on the Mosel River. It’s located in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and it’s known for its medieval architecture and scenic views.

The small town is full of history, and visitors have an endless number of landmarks to explore. Cochem is also an important wine center, due to its position in the white wine region of Germany.

  • Weekend Train Trip to Udon Thani

This weekend I did the first of what will hopefully be a regular series of train trips to major destinations around Thailand. My intention is to promote rail tourism which is both sustainable and eco-friendly travel. I am really happy that the Tourism Authority of Thailand has recognised the importance of my rail project and that they are kindly giving me logistical support. The first train trip was to Udon Thani on the Northeastern Line. I took Special Express No.25 that goes from Bangkok’s new terminal Krung Thep Aphiwat to Nong Khai overnight. This and other destination train guides will be on my ThaiTrainGuide.com website soon. You will also be able to download the guides as free PDFs. The following are the photos and notes that I posted live during my trip.

  • My Favorite Reads of 2022

Hey guys, it’s been a while! Working in consulting has taken a toll on my blogging — when I have free time, the last thing I want to do is stare at a screen.

But I wanted to pop in to share some reading recommendations. I read 32 books in 2022 which is about average for me — I usually read 30-35 books a year. Which is perfectly fine with me. I read for pleasure, and I’m not a fan of reading challenges.

In 2022, I read way more fiction than usual, which is something I want to continue this year as well.

Without further ado, here are my favorite reads of 2022:

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman (2017)

Eleanor Oliphant is quirky, reclusive, and painfully socially awkward. But despite her social difficulties, what she craves above all else is connection with other people.

  • These Are The Best Places To Visit In Detroit

Detroit is regarded as the automobile capital of the world and is also famous for its contributions to Motown music of the 1960s. While it’s easy to get lost in the city’s downtown area, many of the best attractions are located on the city’s riverfront, or in its parks, lakes, and museums. Here are seven places that you’ll want to visit while visiting Detroit.

    Detroit’s Historic District

Although it’s not a city as large as New York or Chicago, Detroit has a lot to offer visitors. One of the best things about Detroit is its historic district, a neighborhood that’s filled with beautiful architecture from the early 1900s. It’s also a place where you can find a wide variety of restaurants and shops, as well as some of the city’s best museums.

Best of all, this is a place where you can truly walk around and explore. There are plenty of

  • Free Electric Shuttle Bus to Floating Markets in Bangkok

Today I’m checking out the free electric bus shuttle between four floating markets in Taling Chan District of Bangkok. This is a review in three parts: MRT Park & Ride, electric bus and floating markets.

The electric bus service connects to MRT Bang Khun Tan station and so I decided I would drive to the Park & Ride at MRT Lak Song first to review that car park. Park on the 3rd floor as that’s where the bridge is to connect to the station.

    📍MRT: maps.app.goo.gl/nCs9ngRKXYmyxA…

If you are riding the MRT it costs you 10 Baht to park for 2 hours. If not, then it’s 20 baht for 1 hour. I got a parking coupon from the MRT ticket office. From Lak Song I had to change at MRT Tha Phra and then get off

  • 5 Tips for Driving Safely on Busy Trucking Routes Throughout the USA

America’s road network is exceptional, and yet it’s not without its flaws. The main asphalt arteries that connect major cities and states can suffer from being clogged by heavy goods vehicles hauling their loads at slow speeds, for example.

Traveling on these major trucking routes is often unavoidable for other drivers, which isn’t ideal from a safety perspective. With that in mind, let’s talk about steps you can take to reduce the risks you face when sharing the road with trucks.

Keep your distance and be aware of blind spots

The first mistake many motorists make is getting too close to trucks because their size and scale mean that the people behind the wheel are afflicted by blind spots in certain positions.

This is why tailgating a truck is never wise, and why you also have to be on your guard when passing in a lane directly adjacent to them
